The main objective of the Community Composting Project in Seixal is to fertilize
gardens and allotment gardens with natural products produced through the recycling
of biodegradable materials, like leaves, grass clips or other vegetable wastes,
and thereby also reducing the quantity of waste disposed in landfill. |
| The project, financed by the EU-LIFE Environment, is coordinated by the Seixal Municipality and will be implemented between 2003/2005. The project’s success has been the result of a strong partnership between the Seixal Municipality and the company NORDEConsult. |
The Community Composting Project will be carried out in 3 community sectors: schools, municipal services and residential areas with villas. These 3 sectors have been identified as the most relevant producers of organic waste.
The innovation of the project is the integrated approach of gathering in the same project these 3 sectors of the population, in a project that deals with public awareness on good environmental practices regarding household waste management. |
